Chef Franklyn Rosario grew up in the Dominican Republic surrounded by the aromas of his grandmother's kitchen — slow-cooked pernil, fragrant rice and beans, sweet fried plantains. Food wasn't just sustenance; it was identity, celebration, and love made tangible.
When Franklyn arrived in Oakland, he brought those recipes with him. What started as cooking for friends and family quickly grew into something bigger — a catering operation that brought authentic Dominican flavors to corporate offices, schools, community events, and cultural celebrations across the Bay Area.
La Bandera Kitchen — named after La Bandera Dominicana, the traditional Dominican meal of rice, beans, and meat that mirrors the colors of the Dominican flag — is his way of keeping that heritage alive while building something new in his adopted home.
"Every plate I serve carries the flavors of home — and the hope that it makes someone else feel at home too."
Every recipe is authentic — passed down through generations and prepared with the same care and technique as in the DR.
We serve schools, nonprofits, corporations, and families. Food is how we build bridges across cultures and neighborhoods.
